The realization that Church can be done differently to transform society informed the formation of GCCI. The word of God does not change but the method of releasing the same can keep changing with generations. GCCI exists to win souls, disciple/transform their lives through the teaching of the word of God, empower them to fulfill their divine destinies on earth to impact their world and communities. GCCI is part of the body of Christ and a registered organization according to the laws of Kenya. It belongs to an umbrella of association of churches – Alliance of Apostolic Ministries. It endeavors to make the gospel relevant to the world by preparing its followers holistically; work, mental, health, which leads to healthy and wealthy families.
GCCI formerly Glory Celebration Church (GCC) Nanyuki is a church ministry where the Christians gather as a family for their lives to be transformed into responsible believer. It is a Commission, mandated to raise responsible Christians with capacity to impact Nanyuki and the world for God. The church is strongly founded on evangelism and outreach which has realized increased growth in those being saved, joining the church and participating in the God given mandate of “reaching to the world and making disciples for him.”
Christ came to restore man back to his kingdom and to restore his mandate: to be kings and priest Rev 5:10. The church functions on earth in different ways to prepare the bride for the bridegroom in the end. Apart from religion GCCI also provides leadership in the other 6 mountains (family, economy, governance, art-entertainment-sports, education, media) in the long run, its membership should be heaven minded but also have value and relevance on earth.
GCCI was started in 1999 in Nanyuki town in a small hall called Covenant Hall. This was a culmination of lunch hour meetings that were taking place in the same venue. About 7 people attended the initial meeting. The aim was to make a difference in the lives of people through the Word of God and raising responsible believers.
In February 2000, the church was officially launched by the Bishop of Gospel Christian Church, Dr Sammy Gitaari. Late in 2000 the church relocated to another venue within town. At the time, the church could only afford a “magunia” (gunny bag) - walled building which later changed to “ivari”. However, the church grew to about 200 members by the year 2002 and moved into a “mabati” (iron sheet) structure.
Between 1999 – 2000 the church undertook aggressive crusades in the major estates and won souls, opening the church to the community. In February 2000 the church started an annual conference; “World Changers Conference”, which continued to be held within the church premises up to the year 2004 when a major conference was held at Nanyuki Central Park. This conference was a huge success and was attended by a large number of people. From this, the home church fellowships were started to help support the discipling of brethren who got born again.
The numbers continued to grow progressively through discipleship and outreach and in 2003, the church begun the process of purchasing a plot for permanent establishment. In the year 2002 church was able to buy a small plot where the City Chapel was currently located.
Outreach activities continued around Nanyuki and its environs leading to the establishment of branches in other towns for instance Naro Moru, Naibor, Lamuria among others. The church also undertook missions to Kampala, Uganda in 2009 and Nigeria in 2010 among other local visits to churches in Kenya. In 2007 the church established a school of Ministry, dubbed “Nanyuki School of Empowerment” aimed at building capacity of the church members. To deliver this effectively, the school now partners with Light Gospel College based in Nairobi.
Every year the church organizes training and empowerment conferences for various groups. The church holds the youth (Youth for God) conference in March, the Queens conference in April, Kings Conference in June, and annual conference in August dubbed the World Changers Conference and the Shiloh Family Serve in December.
The Sunday church attendance has grown and averages between 1800 and 2000 for the last 3 years. The church has graciously sustained effective teaching of the Word of God and powerful impact worship for Sunday services.
